ENTHUSIAST  

My name is Amanda and I have been a fan of pop-culture, science, and travel for many years. My initial introduction to these interests began like most interests do: in elementary school.

 

My earliest memories of enjoying science were of my grade 1-3 teacher, Mrs. Schulte, who inspired my love of nature and animals on school trips to Camp Encounter. Once she recognized my passion she signed me up for the WISEST program (Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science and Technology) at the University of Alberta. From that point on I knew I wanted to inspire other girls to pursue their passions in science. It is for that reason I became a teacher. 

 

My love of pop culture began when I was tasked with reading The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien in school. I immediately fell in love with fantasy books and movies. My love for this media grew even more after I met my husband, Vance, who shared his passion for Marvel comics, video games, and collecting. We love to travel, especially when we can visit filming locations or attend pop-culture expos.
